What Poilievre’s Response to Musk’s Endorsement tells us

This video of Poilievre responding to Musk’s endorsement raises questions. I’m undecided whether Poilievre doesn’t do his homework or whether he simply hopes Canadians won’t. Here’s what they hope you won’t notice.

1. Musk’s Influence: Musk is using twitter to influence elections around the world. He’s thirsty for power.

2. Poilievre’s stance on corporate subsidies: Poilievre says he wants to put an end to corporate subsidies, so why is he meeting with corporate lobbyists? I’m pretty sure it’s not to break the bad news to them that corporate subsidies are over and corporate taxes are going up if he’s elected. No, if an end to corporate subsidies was in his platform he’d be shouting it from the rooftops. Oh wait. He said that in this video didn’t he? Hmmm. What’s his end game? He hopes we won’t notice? Surely he’s aware of the subsidies Musk gets. (Which is a conflict of interest in his current position with DOGE. But that’s beside the point.) Let’s talk about the subsidies that Poilievre says he’ll abolish.

3. Musk’s subsidies: Musk’s endeavours have acquired about $19 billion in subsidies from the U.S. government in the form of grants, tax breaks, discounted loans, and environmental credits, but sure, Poilievre would have us believe Musk’ll set up factories in Canada with no expectation of corporate subsidies from the Canadian Government. What will he give Musk in return? Unfettered access to Finance Canada, the CRA, and/or The Bank of Canada? More?

4. Motives behind Musk’s endorsement: Why is Musk endorsing Poilievre? It isn’t out of the goodness of his heart. He sees opportunity and Poilievre offers the path of least resistance. Musk, along with the other billionaires crowding around #47 aren’t trying to solve world problems and figure out how to help every person thrive. Rather, they’re racing across the backs of the working class to see who becomes the first trillionaire.

5. Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face: Poilievre and The Conservative Party is rage farming in an attempt to keep us in the dark.

6. Keep informed by recognizing and resisting this strategy: What don’t they want you to know? Read between the lines. When Poilievre says in the same sentence, we’re going to lower taxes in order to attract more development, he doesn’t mean he’s lowering your taxes.

7. Research the history of taxes in this country: You’ll see that Harper lowered corporate taxes. As the Chairperson of the IDU, he helped get Orban and Trump elected. The IDU claims to uphold democracy. We’re not seeing much democracy in either Hungary or the USA. Know that Harper was involved in Project 2025 in the USA. Harper continues to influence the Conservative platform here in Canada. Ask yourself what he has bartered away to the USA should the Conservatives form the next Government.

8. Don’t fall for the demonization of CBC, and other reputable news reporting: Read from multiple perspectives. Take advantage of apps like Ground News to help. The Conservatives want to hold you captive in the silos created by organizations such The Rebel and True North. There’s also an uptick in so-called ‘Independent Journalists’ who pretend they are writing with journalistic integrity. Fact check them. Know the difference between opinion and fact.

9. Misinformation/disinformation and propaganda is easy to spot: You recognize it when you read it. Partial truths, couched in accusations and unverifiable assertions. You know it when you see it, but they’re counting on your hatred to further their agenda. They’re hoping to harness your anger and disillusionment for their own purposes.

10. Demand transparency: If we refuse to fall for the distractions thrown our way, politicians will have no choice than to be transparent. If we fall for their obfuscation, Canada too, may follow their US counterparts and jump from the frying pan into the fire.
